First published to critical acclaim in 1970, Plucked in a Far-off Land is an evocation of its author's childhood in Cyprus from the late 1930s. Baybars depicts in vivid and affectionate detail life as it was lived around him during his first eleven years.
Taner Baybars was born in Cyprus in 1936. He moved to England in 1955 and became a respected figure in the British literary world through his poetry, prose and translations. Since 1988 he has lived in France where he continues to write and paint.
