In 1995 Dr Wood Conroy took up work as artist-in-residence at the excavation of the Hellenistic-Roman theatre complex at Fabrika Hill in Paphos on the island of Cyprus. This, she says, was a transformative experience in her life; it is the thread that runs through these journals and the inspiration that led her to explore the ancient theatres of the same period in Egypt, Greece, and Turkey.
